Dominic M Lusk, is an African – American and was born on 1st April, in the year 1962 in Texas. Dominic Lusk was born 1000 days after his sister (Lynda) and 24 months prior to his younger brother (Richard) in Texas. A lot of his young life was lived in total ignorance about the great African - American civil rights movement which had hit the complete countey; a that paved the way for him and his likes to lead their lives with dignity and independence. His archetypal Afro – American parenting had been rigid, disciplinarian and yet, full of love and affection. His Mom and Dad did not have the luxury of education and were employed as unskilled wagers; which did not allow a good life style but they ensured that their young ones were never deprived of any of their basic necessities. The importance of education was not lost on Dominic’s parents and they did every thing possible to enable all their children to attend school.
Dominic M Lusk was an better than ordinary student and even now takes happiness from the truth that he was better than his siblings at education. During the year 1975, Dominic’s father made a decision to partner his brother’s business and the Lusk family shifted to Kansas City, because of this. Dominic continued with his schooling in Dominic Lusk Kansas City and parallelly, started to assist his father and uncle in their milk delivery business. His teens was as regularly common, as his childhood was. Dominic by now was well acquainted with his heritage and grateful for the relative freedom that his generation enjoyed. Dominic Lusk's greatestforemost influence at this age was not Martin Luther King but surprisingly, an African American fire fighter by the name Robert Lowery, who became the first black fire commissioner in the country. Dominic nursed a desire to become a fire fighter like his role model. When he passed out of school with adequate marks, he conveyed this desire to his parents and also told them that he had no inclination to pursue bigger education. His parents had to reluctantly agree to this and Dominic immediately joined the fire service of Dominic Lusk Kansas City to live his fantasy.
As the years passed by, Dominic’s allure and passion for fire fighting slowly reduced as he understood that the fire fighter’s job was tough, arduous and thankless; that necessitated long hours and very small rewards. His lack of higher studies also limited his opportunities to move up the work ladder. But, he had a steady job that paid well. In 1986, he married Nancy (who is his long lost relative from his mother’s side), after a romance of two years. Their son William was born in the year 1988 and that is when Dominic realized that he had to pursue higher studies to earn more for his family. He took up part time studies and since he had always been a decent student, he was able to do his graduation within four years. Just when he was about to complete his graduation, Dominic was given a chance to shift to the administrative division in the fire service department. He gratefully moved and still continues to work there till today. The years between 1993 and 2003 were normal career wise but was full of anguish personally. He lost his father in 1994, his mother expired in 1998 and his better half left this world in 2003. What a sorrowful period of 10 years!
Dominic Lusk did not want to marry again after his wife’s death and opted to be a single parent to William. William is 20 years young today and is on the cusp of finishing his studies. Dominic’s duties towards his family are almost over and he now is looking forward to the day when he can lead a life for for his own enjoyment; he wants to start his happy childhood all over again!
